-Graham Duff  (Writer of IDEAL / Owner of Heavens Lathe)

“A potent sound mined from the space where the dark prog of King Crimson meets the dirty blues of Beefheart.”

BIO

Tinned Meats were formed in 2018 as a studio project between Jon Willmer (synth) and Jack Howorth(guitar, vocals) who started writing immediately after the dissolution of a band they had previously been in together. After auditioning many potential singers and drummers, they finally landed on Lennon Wild on drums and it was decided Jack should take on lead vocal duties. Shortly thereafter they chose the name Tinned Meats from a long list of potential names, as it was the only one from the list no other artist was using.

Cult Leaders (2022) was the first realisation of the songs Jack and Jon had been writing for a few years, after initially being interrupted by covid, the album then started to take shape pretty quickly. Recorded DIY in a cobbled together studio and experimenting with different recording techniques, the album is bursting with different sounds and ideas as Tinned Meats first foray into writing and recording together.

T.M.E.P. (2023) was recorded live in studio and contains 4 songs which have since become favourites at gigs. Based on jams in the studio these are the first songs written from scratch with Lennon for Tinned Meats.

KILTER (2026) is the second studio album from Tinned Meats. KILTER is Tinned Meats fully realised, songs which have unconventional rhythms and disjointed verses matched with full open choruses with vocal harmonies. Lyrical themes on the record include isolation, brain injury, mass hysteria, futility, and incarceration, but don’t be fooled: KILTER is not a dark and serious album. Its broad influences, self awareness, insistent hooks and melodies, and occasional psychedelic feel provide a playful counterpoint  to the more intense exploration of descent into madness. With Tom Kerr providing much of the bass duties for KILTER and cycling through many bassists over the years Tinned Meats finally settled on Elliot Robinson as their fulltime bassist who first appears on the KILTER tracks Waiting Room and Mir.

Combining jazz-inspired drums, soaring synths, spiky guitar, melodic bass lines, and varied vocal styles that range from chaotic ranting to lush harmonies, Tinned Meats create a sound unlike any other.
